Apr. 16, 2007 - An important lesson ...
The rule ... if you kill it, you clean it, cook it and eat it.
Seemed like enough rules to me. But no. What happens when you simply wound it? And then are faced with the fact that you've inflicted pain upon something. And, it isn't going to live. And, you've got to finish what you've started.
OKAY ... so I realize that some of you probably think it's insane that we allowed him to shoot a rabbit in the first place ... and in some ways, I would agree. But the boy received a pellet gun for Christmas, spent weeks perfecting his aim ... and wanted to test his skill against nature. And he won. Atleast he felt that way for the first 3 minutes until the stun wore off and the twitching and learching began. And then ... reality sunk in. And the victory began to seem a bit less sweet with every passing moment. Finally, I just had to go in the house and let father and son work out this moment for themselves.
Tomorrow night, we fry rabbit. Hmmmm ... I don't think I had any part in this, so why do I have to cook it? I believe that a salad will be on the menu for mama!
