Mar. 25, 2007 - The weekend update ...
Friday night ... Randy recognized a hint of stress in my voice and showed up with a bottle of white wine in tow. That got him big points because that is neither regular behavior on his part nor a regular want on mine ... but appreciated beyond belief.
Saturday started early ... my niece and nephew have birthdays just days apart ... their want for a birthday party was a cookout at our house ... which I was notified of on Friday morning. But, truth is I adore them ... and feel blessed that they wanted to have a party at our house. It monkeyed with some prior plans, but one of them turned 16 and the other 12 ... and it seems that time is flying by and I couldn't say no. So the day was filled with shopping for birthday presents for them (I love TJMaxx), ingredients for GG's cole slaw, burger toppings, and chips ... followed by 4-wheeling, laughter, my first ebay purchase and those late night, around the fire (though we had no fire, just tiki lamps) confessions that happen when adults close their mouths and let kids just begin to talk ... each time I experiencce it, I'm overwhelmed by the preciousness of the moment, but saddened by the cards that the world is dealing teens today. They attend public school in our county and what they face is tragic.
Today brought church, BBQ waiting on us when we returned, sweet tea, tomato salad and the Lady Vols and a 30 minute nap on Randy's chest! Followed by a couple of hours free while waiting on choir practice, phone conversations that solve little but make everything managable ... and finally daydreaming about the camping trip I want to happen this week ... I need to happen this week. The weather calls my soul to open fire cooking, s'mores, coolers full of water and iced tea, hot dogs on sticks and good friends.
Tonight, like many nights in the past three weeks, sleep seems far off.
