camping moments

May. 29, 2007 - Camping Moments ...
As the camping season hits full throttle around here, as well as queenof thehill's last post ... I am reminded of some funny (and some less funny) camping stories ...
like when we bought our pop up in June, set out for Pennsylvania in mid-July ... hubby was trying to be efficient in his packing and refused to let me take sleeping bags, blankets ... only sheets (and I snuck in a couple of couch throws behind his back) and it got down into the 50's at night during the trip. Have you ever looked for an electric blanket in JULY in Pennsylvania??????? not pretty! But they had the best pool at a state park we've ever seen
or when we went to McCormick's Creek in Indiana and my sweet husband decided we should take our cat instead of boarding her ... Puck was attacked in the night by a raccoon and almost didn't survive.
or when we pulled into a campsite at Kentucky Lake in the dead of night, absolutely exhausted in mid-December (returning from a funeral in Missouri). In the middle of the night we woke to horrific winds ... I really thought that we would be picked up and tossed around by morning! Luckily, that wasn't the case, because when we did get up the next morning and look around, we had parked our pop up out AS FAR ONTO THE PAD AS POSSIBLE right next to the lake. It was a beautiful morning, but just a couple of feet and we'd have been in Kentucky Lake the night before!
or the first trip out with the new camper ... Randy pulled into a bank parking lot, couldn't get around the curvy curbs ... had to try to back out and bent the jack ... then ran into a ditch and broke the seal on the septic lines ... it was somewhat like National Lampoon's Vacation! Don't mention it to Randy, he's still a bit sensitive.
or the stinky horseshoe crab that AJ didn't want to give up on the trip to Hunting Island ...
We heard that families who camp together have a lower divorce rate ... hmmmmmmmm ...
