It's been a crazy 5 days
Sep. 20, 2006 - It has been a CRAZY 5 days!
Of birthday celebration. I know many people only celebrate once, maybe twice ... we celebrate until it's out of our system. And sometimes it can go on and on.
I somehow managed a blog on the morning of his birthday Friday ... probably in an effort to stay awake because this is how our Thursday night began ... 11:30pm- AJ says "I'm too sleepy and excited to settle down."(I personally hate that feeling!) 12:00am "It's technically my birthday now, can we have my 'our family' party now" To which I reply that he wasn't technically born until 7:07pm and if we're going to celebrate technical birthdays, we'd have to wait until then. So, he giggles and trots back off to bed. I finally doze off only to be awakened again at 2:30am ... "Mom, I'm so sorry, I'm tired, I can't sleep. What should I do?" I toss him in the middle and try to go back to sleep ... only to be reminded of why we were always so tired while living the family bed lifestyle ... AJ was a gymnast in another life and often does backflips in his sleep ... it was cute at 2, still cute at 4, less cute at 8 ... and downright dangerous at 11, 5'1 and 100 lbs! I go to his room with him, he finally drifts off to sleep recounting a beach walk to me from a couple of years ago ... I head back to bed about 4:30 ................. ONLY TO BE RATTLED AWAKE BY RANDY at 5:30am ... "Can we wake AJ and give him his present before I have to go to work?" Translation ... Can we wake AJ so that I can play with his present before I go to work?? lol
So- at 5:50 am on Friday the 15th the birthday games began! With a bit of school on Friday morning, lunch at Wasabi after the arrival of dear friends/family, putt-putt golf and a Friday night HS football game. Saturday meant practice, lunch with Grammie in K-town and a tailgating party with family ... Sunday started early with an attempt at the traditional birthday cake ... but, since my oven in out, I had to travel to my sister's house across the county to bake a cake ... only to realize I'd left 3 key ingredients out of my basket ... a trip to the grocery and an extra 20 minutes in the oven kept us from making it to church on time ... 80 pieces of chicken ... 2 ugly, but okay birthday cakes later, we made our way to the park for a birthday party/picnic with AJ's (and our) favorite friends. Beautiful weather, great food provided by each family, typical homeschool kids gathering ... big kids and little kids all playing together (okay, the tackle football was a bit scary and included a few injuries) ... at 4 AJ headed off to church with friends, I picked him up later ... took a buddy home with us ... and we all slept like the dead!
Monday was too busy to continue the birthday celebration or allow us to let down much ... but Tuesday, I took him shopping with his birthday money, had lunch out and we napped almost the entire day! It was a great way to end the celebrating! Today, it's back to the real world. To the dump with dad this morning, school this afternoon and youth group tonight!
Poor dad is the one who seems the most worn out! ... maybe he can catch up this weekend!
