some families are born out of necessity
Oct. 20, 2006 - Some families are born out of necessity.
And when I moved to east tn 21 years ago ... I needed family close by to survive. First generation college ... struggling in my faith ... 500 miles from home.
My College and Career Sunday School teacher seemed to need family as well. And a deal was struck. She mentored, loved, encouraged, fed and often financially supported my efforts. I provided her with an adoration she had not received from her own daughter, sought her instruction and enjoyed her company. She sat with family at my wedding. We exchange Mother's Day card, send Mother/Daughter birthday cards ... AJ calls her Grammie. And she is a treasure in my life today!
Last week, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It is almost identical to the type/progression/stage of my mother's breast cancer one year ago. It was difficult to hear of my mother's situation, but she was very far away. There was a frustration of not being there, but I was not there for the day in, day out journey she walked. This time, I will be here. I'll be at the hospital, I'll be on call, I'll be watching and wondering as the hours pass into days and days into months and months into years ... is the monster gone or still looming somewhere ready to pounce. My tn mom isn't able to take the same meds that my In mom is taking ... it means that chemo is more likely. I must remember to pray more than I ponder, surrender more than I seek and be still more than I'm busy in this situation.
If you think to pray, we'd be grateful!
