1st blueberry pie of the summer

Jul. 5, 2006 - The first blueberry pie of the summer!
When we moved into our house about 6 years ago we were uncertain what we loved most about our new digs! When July came, we decided unanimously that our 'favorite things' were the blueberry bushes! And that has not changed. We anxiously await the beginning week of July because we know by then, the first round of wonderfully sweet/tart blueberries will be ready! Now, last we we picked about 2 pints ... because we couldn't be patient. They were tasty on cereal with milk and plenty of sugar ... the burst of sour that hit our tongues was a reminder that we hadn't waited quite long enough! But this week, thanks to some much needed rain, they are juicy and sweet and perfect for eating off the bush, in cereal, in pancakes, in muffins ... but tonight, we have our first blueberry pie of the season! And I have one fella on his way home tonight who is more thankful than the average bear! It's nice when the day finishes in such a way that simple pleasures can quiet the mind and soothe the soul!
